Spring has come to Las Cruces

Sunny, 65 degrees and no wind. Spring seem to have come to Las Cruces. Everyone here seems to be complaining about the cold weather in December and January. We actually had 3 small snowfalls and two days of rain. My feeling is they should get a life. We still have the best weather in the US. There simply is no bad weather here. We are all spoiled. I watch the National weather on the morning news and gloat just a bit.

Again in 2009 Las Cruces has been rated in the top 10 small and medium sized Cities in the US. This is truely a great place to live.

Spaceport and Convention Center Under Construction

The National News has had some information on the New Spaceport, however they refer to the Mohave Desert in California. It is, in fact, being built in just North of Las Cruces.Runway and hangars are under constuction. A State Highway from Las Cruces to the Spaceport has been funded by the NM Legislature but is in danger of being withdrawn to balance the State budget. This road would cut the 90 minute commuting time from Las Cruces from 90 minutes to about half of that.

The New Las Cruces Convention Center is under construction and is already booking conventions for next winter. Merry Christmas and a Happy and Prosperous New Year to all my friends.

Las Cruces is No. 9 on list of Best Small US Cities.

The Milken Institute has anounced that Las Cruces has again made its way into the top 10 list of 2009's Best-Performing Small Cities. This rating is based on Job Creation and sustainability and cites the impending construction of the Spaceport, and the "low cost of doing business" as two benefits for the Las Cruces Area. NMSU, White Sands Missle Range, and NASA test facilities continue to be the economic engines of this region. "With the growing aerospace engineering program at NMSU attracting aerospace firms ... Las Cruces is becoming a major player and top location for aerospace and related technology R&D firms."

November in Las Cruces

It has been a tough month. Haven't seen a cloud in weeks. No wind with highs between 75 and 80 and lows @ 45 to 50 degrees. Hope the weather changes after 10 straight days of Golf my legs are getting tired. We really love this place.

Spaceport America under construction

The Space industry arrives in New Mexico. 45 miles North of Las Cruces crews are transforming the desert into the Worlds First Spaceport designated for commercial travel. Soon you will able to spend 2 hours orbiting the earth for the paltry sum of $250,000. Virgin Galactica (Richard Branson) is investing $198,000,000 in this project. Southern New Mexicans are looking for ways to package the experience for tourism by emphasizing this areas Old West History and folklore as well as its role in the space program. This should bode very well for the future of our local economy. Word is they already have more than 100 reservations with deposits.

Hollywood comes to Las Cruces

"Due Date"starring Robert Downey Jr. is being filmed just east of town on Highway 70 and and is putting real kink in the commute to NASA and White Sands. Traffic jams are makng a lot of commuters overdue. Word is that the road clousures are being reschedled to alleviate congestion during the morning and evening commuting hours New Mexico is a popular place for fiming of motion pictures and locals get in line to sign up for cameos as extras in the movies. Movie production is always a boon to the local economy but is not with its inconveniences.

Just established this blog on June 23, 2009. The weather here this summer has been great. High temperature most days has been in the 90's and we have not yet seen any triple digit temeratures. Finally getting some rain in the form of thunderstorns which is typical for July. Groundbreaking for the newSpaceport occured last Friday and Saturday. I was a thrill to watch White Knight 2 circle Las Cruces. Yesterday there was a comprehensive article on the real estate market in Las Cuces in the Las Cruce Sun-News.
