Spaceport and Convention Center Under Construction

The National News has had some information on the New Spaceport, however they refer to the Mohave Desert in California. It is, in fact, being built in just North of Las Cruces.Runway and hangars are under constuction. A State Highway from Las Cruces to the Spaceport has been funded by the NM Legislature but is in danger of being withdrawn to balance the State budget. This road would cut the 90 minute commuting time from Las Cruces from 90 minutes to about half of that.

The New Las Cruces Convention Center is under construction and is already booking conventions for next winter.   Merry Christmas and a Happy and Prosperous New Year to all my friends.

George, did you read the Las Cruces Sun News this morning.  "2010 promises to be a landmark year"

A new city hall, the first phase of the Regional Recreation and Aquatics Center and the Las Cruces Convention Center are all scheduled to be 201o.  A totalof 64 million in Capital Projects. This article does not touch on the new Spaceport, expansion of White Sands Missle Range and increased funding at NMSU for Aerospace Research. This town is on the move. Many see this as the absollute bottom of the recession and expect a significant rebound in 2010.

George!   Did you see the building permits for the the state?  In 2005 Bernalillo County (Albuquerque) reported almost 3400 permits in 2006, dropping to 773 by the end of October of 2009.  Dona Ana County (Las Cruces) reported 1800 permits in 2006 and dropped to almost the same number as Albuquerque in 2009 (701 actually).  Let's see.......ABQ has 1/2 mil folks compared to LC with 100K.  Considering the population, we're beating ABQ in demand for new homes!!!!

You're right and so is Helen.   This town is on the move.   Keep up the good work reporting on our economy.     Happy New Year buster!
